About Buzz News Briefs

An independent civic news briefing project built on one idea: people deserve clear, honest, contextual news — without the noise, the spin, or the corporate filter.

Why We Exist

The Problem With News Today

Most Americans want to stay informed. But the news landscape has become exhausting — cable channels optimized for outrage, social media algorithms that reward engagement over accuracy, and local newsrooms that have been gutted by hedge funds and corporate consolidation.

The result: people either tune out entirely, or they get their news from sources that are more interested in keeping them angry than keeping them informed.

Buzz News Briefs exists to offer a different approach. Short, clear daily briefings that tell you what happened and why it matters. Background explainers that give you the context the headline leaves out. A curated source guide so you know where to go to verify what you're reading.

We are not trying to tell you what to think. We are trying to give you what you need to think for yourself.

What We Stand For

Our Values

Plain English, Always

News should be understandable without a law degree or a political science background. We write for people, not insiders.

Independence First

We are not owned by a corporation, a billionaire, or a political party. Our editorial decisions are made by us — not by advertisers or donors with agendas.

Transparency About Sources

We tell you where information comes from. We link to primary sources. We distinguish between what is confirmed and what is alleged.

Context Over Clicks

We don't optimize for outrage or engagement. We optimize for understanding. Background context is as important as the headline.

Civic Focus

We cover the stories that affect how democracy functions — elections, courts, press freedom, accountability, and the institutions that shape public life.

Explainers, Not Just Headlines

Headlines without context create confusion. We pair every news cycle with background that explains why it matters and how we got here.

How We Operate

Editorial Independence Statement

Editorial independence is not a slogan — it's a structural commitment. Here is exactly how we protect it.

No advertiser influence

Advertisers do not shape our coverage. We do not accept sponsored content disguised as news.

No pay-to-play

Sources are not paid for interviews or coverage. We do not accept gifts or access in exchange for favorable reporting.

No corporate ownership

Buzz News Briefs is independently operated. No parent company, hedge fund, or media conglomerate has editorial authority over our work.

Corrections policy

When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently — with a note explaining what changed and why.

Fact vs. opinion

We clearly distinguish between factual reporting and analysis. Opinion and commentary are labeled as such.

Source verification

We verify claims before publishing. We use primary sources — court documents, official records, wire services — wherever possible.

A Note on Funding

Buzz News Briefs is an independent project. We do not accept funding from political organizations, government entities, or corporations with interests in our coverage areas. If and when we accept reader support or sponsorships, we will disclose them fully and they will have no influence over editorial decisions. Transparency about funding is non-negotiable.

The Bottom Line

An Informed Public Is a Free Public

Democracy doesn't work when people can't access honest, clear information about what their government is doing. That's what Buzz News Briefs is here for — not to tell you what to think, but to make sure you have what you need to think for yourself.
